Brief Description Full Report

The 2006 Life Science Industry Awards represent an interesting and important snapshot of how the market is currently structured and gives insights into how it will evolve. This report, Enabling Discovery: The 2006 Life Science Industry Awards, is based on the survey of over 2,400 scientists who voiced their opinions on 18 award categories. The winners for each award category were determined by calculating a numerical value based on the total number of nominations for each supplier plus each supplier’s customer value score. The customer value score was based on additional questions about the nominated suppliers that indicate their customers’ degree of satisfaction and loyalty.

In addition to presenting the complete survey results -- including the rankings of all of the nominated companies in each category -- the report also presents a Segmentation Spotlight and a Supplier Scorecard in each category. The Segmentation Spotlight looks at how the respondents who selected each finalist are different from the market as a whole, in terms of market, region, lab budget, age, and gender. The Supplier Scorecard provides a letter grade for each finalist based on the levels of satisfaction, relevance, likelihood to repurchase, and likelihood to recommend reported by the respondents who selected each finalist as the best in class.

For the purpose of the Life Science Industry Awards, it was decided that market and product segmentation is most easily understood in terms of the most commonly used scientific techniques. In all, 12 broad techniques were used to define the market’s product categories and the study of biological processes as the delimiters of the overall market’s boundaries. In addition, the Awards assessed performance in 6 categories of communications and support, reflecting the importance of close attention and follow-through on services and information to meet customers’ needs.
