Karen L. Blaine (Chief Executive Officer) [email]
Karen has more than 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the life sciences and has held positions of responsibility with industry leaders such as Fisher Scientific, Life Technologies, and Oncor. With a strong scientific background and extensive sales experience, Karen adeptly grasps the technical needs of clients, while bringing a unique "customer" perspective to the table. She serves as the primary point-of-contact for BioInformatics and excels in helping clients articulate their requirements and transform these into actionable objectives. As the co-founder of BioInformatics and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Karen has been directly involved in every aspect of the business, and continues to support clients, sub-contractors and employees as the company enjoys continued growth and expansion. Karen received her bachelor's degree in Biomanagement from Marietta College.

Justin Dudash (Director, Analytics) [email]
Justin has designed and fielded nearly 200 market surveys since joining BioInformatics in 2002.  He is an experienced market research professional who oversees our fast-paced production process, develops new information products and builds lasting client relationships.  Justin interacts with clients to advise on the appropriate survey methodology, designs qualitative and quantitative studies, and manages our team of exceptionally talented analysts.  As Director of Analytics, he continues to play a "hands-on" role in formulating survey questionnaires, analyzing data, writing reports and preparing client presentations.  Justin is well versed in a variety of quantitative techniques and methodologies, including conjoint analysis, discrete choice, multivariate, regression, ROI, perceptual mapping, forecasting, and modeling.  He received his bachelor's degree in Information Management & Analysis with a concentration in Management Information Systems from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.

Stacy Hankin (Senior Business Analyst) [email]
As Senior Business Analyst, Stacy's primary responsibilities include performing statistical analysis of survey data, preparing charts and tables for market research reports, and ensuring client satisfaction with data analysis. Before joining the BioInformatics team, Stacy was in the management trainee program for Enterprise Rent-a-Car. She was responsible for controlling vehicle inventory, creating and maintaining relationships with customers and referral sources, and monitoring the entire cycle of service for each customer. As a Campaign Manager for City Councilman Mike Sarich, Stacy conducted extensive market research on voter, social and economic issues through phone surveys and in person interviews with citizens. Stacy received her bachelor's degree with a double major in Marketing and Logistics, Transportation and Supply Chain Management from the University of Maryland.

Kathryn Henwood (Membership Coordinator, The Science Advisory Board) [email]
Kathryn develops the community of life science professionals in the role of membership coordinator for The Science Advisory Board.  She is responsible for maintaining the membership and extensive resources of the board community, fostering relationships with professional organizations, and organizing new content submission for The Science Advisory Board website.  Previously, Kathryn worked four years in management for Classic Photography, where she ran business operations for the William and Mary campus.  She also spent one year as an independent consultant in business development for Shenandoah Lanes.  Her scientific experiences include working for Washington State University's genetics lab, and a neuroscience experiment that culminated in a presentation at the Neuroscience Symposium at William and Mary.  Kathryn received her B.S. in Biology and a minor in Dance and Choreography from William and Mary.

William T. Kelly (President) [email]
Bill has more than 20 years experience in supporting senior decision makers with timely and accurate information products. He has participated in the design and conduct of hundreds of business research projects and specializes in the collection of competitor intelligence, and many of his projects have been in direct support of Fortune 500 clients. He is skilled in all aspects of customer survey design, interactive interviewing techniques and online database searching. As a Senior Consultant with the world-renowned firm, Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Bill was responsible for assisting corporate and government clients implement multi-million dollar strategic planning and information systems. Later, as a Consultant to Markowitz & McNaughton, he helped dozens of major corporations define their requirements for competitive intelligence and devised programs that delivered critical market assessments to high-level executives. Bill is a former intelligence officer with the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his performance as Chief of the XVIIIth Airborne Corps Intelligence Production Section during the Persian Gulf War. Bill is the co-founder and President of BioInformatics and holds a B.A. from the College of William & Mary.

Greg  Kline (Manager, Research & Advisory Services) [email]
Greg is an experienced market research professional who has successfully managed and executed dozens of successful client-driven projects.  As Senior Research Associate at Mathew Greenwald & Associates, he was the lead researcher for a major financial services organization’s monthly tracking study with the results used to fill a monthly spot on CNBC television.  He led a variety of quantitative and qualitative research programs for Fortune 500 companies on a variety of topics and has special expertise in supporting the launch of new products, positioning strategies and tracking brand perceptions.  Greg previously held research positions of increasing responsibility at IBM, American Viewpoint and Shandwick International.  He holds numerous professional certifications in market research and received his B.S. from Bucknell University.

Ben Martin (Senior Web Developer) [email]
Since 1999 Ben has been designing, developing and maintaining easy to use, solid web based systems. He lends his expert knowledge in php and other web technologies to the task of creating the websites that are intuitive, powerful and drive business. Ben is responsible for all of the IT concerns at BioInformatics. Prior to joining BioInformatics in 2006, Ben worked with OmniTI Computer Consulting, Inc. where he developed and maintained the various websites for The Taubman Company, and it's various shopping centers. He has also worked with 24/7 Media as a UI developer for a banner ad management system. Ben holds a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science from Virginia Tech.

Kate Pastrick (Senior Business Analyst) [email]
As Senior Business Analyst, Kate’s primary responsibilities involve performing statistical analysis of survey data, developing collection strategies and identifying topics for published reports. Once these components are achieved, she then provides graphical representation of the quantitative data for our reports. Kate has a background in financial analysis and was a Senior Loan and Marketing Coordinator for National City Mortgage. In this position, she was responsible for the creation of all marketing materials and affiliate packages for the regional branch. During an internship with the Financial Heretic News, Kate examined several methods of gaining new clients, performed research and analysis of software packages along with e-business techniques, and created an online-based marketing plan for the company. After the initial implementation, she then followed up with secondary and market research to monitor the plan’s effectiveness and develop a long-term strategy. Kate received her bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in Management Information Systems from the University of Delaware.

Amir  Rahbar, Ph.D. (Senior Science Market Analyst) [email]
Amir brings ten years of practical, hands-on laboratory experience to client engagements.  Prior to joining BioInformatics, LLC, Amir was Head of Proteomics at the Naval Research Laboratory’s  (NRL) Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering.  At NRL, he identified and quantified peptides and proteins from complex biological samples mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), nanoLC/MS, MALDI-TOF MS, stable isotope labeling, and other proteomic techniques.  His broad research focused on biomarker discovery, pathogen detection/analysis and he is a specialist in the analysis of membrane proteins and other drug targets.  He has numerous publications to his credit and was recipient of the National Academies Postdoctoral Research Award for Proteomic Analysis of Marine Bacteria Used in Microbial Fuel Cells.  Amir received his Ph.D. and B.S in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland in College Park.  He is a certified Project Manager and is scheduled to receive his M.B.A. from American University in the Fall of 2008.

Marc Seguin (Marketing Assistant) [email]
Marc has over five years of sales and direct sales experience. In his role at BioInformatics, he is responsible for support activities for the Communications Team, assisting in lead generation, database maintenance, and direct markteting campaigns. Before joining the BioInformatics team, Marc worked as a manager at Mattress Warehouse. Prior to Mattress Warehouse, he worked at Cox Communications, during their entry into the telephone industry. Marc is also former enlisted member of the U.S. Army.



Sarah Taliaferro (Communications Coordinator) [email]
As Communications Coordinator, Sarah’s primary role is working closely with the Executive Director of The Life Science Executive Exchange (LSEE) to develop and market the LSEE to business professionals in the life sciences industry.  Sarah’s responsibilities also include gathering content for and editing the weekly LSEE newsletter as well as membership recruitment and retention for the exchange.  Before joining BioInformatics, Sarah worked for Ryan Homes as a Sales and Marketing Associate.  While there, her main responsibilities included direct mail marketing for her product and community, prequalifying prospective clients, and sales of homes in her community.  Before Ryan Homes, Sarah worked as an Administrative Assistant for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Development Office at Virginia Tech.  Her duties included event planning for the alumni football tailgates, donor events in the college’s football suite, the college scholarship banquet and donor appreciation weekends, as well as some administrative duties.  Sarah received a B.S. from Virginia Tech in 2006. 


Tamara Zemlo, Ph.D. M.P.H (Director of Syndicated Research and Analysis) [email]
As Director of Syndicated Research and Analysis, Tamara serves as the company's senior technical and scientific analyst. She combines experience in high-level policy and technology assessments with "hands-on" experience in a variety of molecular and cell biology techniques. Prior to joining BioInformatics, Tamara was Associate Director of Science Policy, Office of Public Affairs, The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). While at FASEB she was responsible for researching, developing and drafting policy statements and background papers on critical scientific issues, with supporting statistical information. Her portfolio included Animals in Research, Cloning and Stem Cells, Federal Research Funding, Human Subjects in Research, Indirect Costs and Intellectual Property issues. Tamara also directed the development of and produced the Breakthroughs in Bioscience series, which are educational articles for the general public on the benefits of biomedical research. As a Policy Intern with the National Academy of Sciences she projected the future United States position in the field of immunology and recommended actions to help achieve and maintain a leadership position. Her work is collected in the resulting report from the National Academies of Science Press, Experiments in International Benchmarking of US Research Fields. Tamara has also been a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) where she studied the role of the human papillomavirus in the progression of low-grade to high-grade cervical lesions and assessed both viral and host risk factors for cervical cancer progression in a prospective epidemiological study. While at NCI, she assisted in managing and analyzing data from the ASCUS/LSIL Triage Study (ALTS), a clinical trial designed to determine the best way to manage clinically the mild abnormalities that often show up on Pap tests. Among her many awards and honors, Tamara was the 1999 recipient of the National Institutes of Health Fellows Award for Research Excellence. Tamara received her Ph.D. in Oncology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her M.P.H. in Public Management/Community Health from Harvard University and her B.A. Biology and Chemistry from Augustana College.
